Spielberg blown away by Jurassic World financial success

Speaking to the The Associated Press, legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg admitted that even he was blown away by the financial success of Jurassic World.
AP: Were you surprised by the success of Jurassic World, on which you were an executive producer?
Spielberg: I’m back in the dinosaur business, it appears. We promised them more teeth and they rewarded us for it. I would have been ecstatic if we had done what the town was expecting, which was a $100 million three-day weekend. That would have just made my whole year. But the fact that it did over twice what the prognosticators were predicting, it just blew me away.
Spielberg served as the executive producer for Jurassic World and will return as executive producer for the Jurassic World sequel set to hit US theaters on June 22, 2018.

Concept art revealed for scrapped 1993 JP animated series
Date: Wednesday, August 19, 2015 - 17:45 (Eastern) Author:Nublar7
An animated Jurassic Park series was originally planned following the success of the original film in 1993. Sadly those plans were canceled and the show never materialized. Artist William Strout, who was hired to do concept art for the series has revealed some of the work he did for the animated show.
"Towards the end of all of this merchandising I got a call from artist Will Meugniot, asking if I’d be interested in designing a Jurassic Park animated series. This was not going to be a kiddy show (although kids of all ages, including myself, could enjoy it). They wanted the show to be a mature prime time series with top writers and state-of-the-art television animation augmented with quite a bit of CG animation. Universal Cartoon Studios wanted a “graphic novel look” to the series. I came in, showed my portfolio and was hired.
“We made a trailer to communicate the look and feel of the series, also showing how we would combine computer animation with traditional animation. All we needed was Spielberg’s approval.
“I heard through the grapevine that he never bothered to watch what we had done. By that time the word was out that he was burnt out on Jurassic Park merchandising and all of the film’s commercial exploitation. So, it never got made.

Jurassic World made an estimated $1.247 million at the domestic box office this weekend to bring its estimated domestic total to $637.979 million. Internationally Jurassic World continues to do well in Japan and according to 'BoxOffice.com', Jurassic World is up to $968.3 million internationally and is now at $1.606 billion worldwide.
It becomes the 3rd film in cinematic history to cross the $1.6 billion worldwide mark. If it continues to do well in Japan, it also has the chance to become the 4th film all-time to make at least $1 billion internationally. That is something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
